the family Paramyxoviridae and the genus Metapneumovirus. First
identified in 2001, HMPV is closely related to respiratory syncytial
virus (RSV) and primarily affects the respiratory tract. It is a
common cause of respiratory infections worldwide, especially in
young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune
systems.HMPV infections typically occur seasonally, with higher
prevalence in late winter and spring.
